From what i've learned looking at the book and talking over at xlforums.
1977 xlch should be running keihin carburetor 7/8 air screw, 1/4in fast idle thread, and 900rpm idle screw, with the spring in the middle slot.
1978 xlch should be running keihin carburetor 1/2 air screw, 1/4 in fast idle thread, and 900rpm idle screw, with the spring in the middle slot.

After trying many different combinations I have found that she wants to run at the 1978 carburetor specs.. Before all the replacement she ran at the 1977 carborator specs.
I'm not sure if the carb is set correctly or if there is something i'm missing. Runs great at the 1978 specs. minimal poping on the backside.(I run it hard) If I try the 7/8 air screw(1977), doesn't want to stay running.
The spring position started when I found the spring in the highest position. It would have great low end performace, yet top end would die out. I want to do more testing tho the bike is working and to bring more fold to the folly umm nope.
1977 xlch with 1978 keihin carburetor.
