The starter finally went chewed the pinion gear on the armature. Instead of buying a new starter, I decided to fix the kicker.

I took the clutch hub off and could clearly see the wear in the ratchet plate.

I have never done riveting before. I remembered my grandfather, when I was really young, showing me a Snap. Telling me how with this one tool you can build so many things.

I imediately started to drill out one of the holes from the front side. I quickly found that drilling partially into the rivet, then using a screwdriver and hammer to knock the rivot free. The rivet would fall out with simpple smack or 2 of the shop punch.

I replaced the rivets old school with just a Sanp, Ball-peen hammer, and the small red avil in the picture. The process became evident as I went through, only had to drill 2 back out.

By laying the back of the clutch hub on the anvil I was able to attack the back of the rivet spreading it into the counter sunk area, while keeping the thickness on the other side. Then just for my own feeling of safety gave the other side enough to really lock it in to mesh the metal tighter.

So get all this done and go to kick it and SNAP! doh! Bahahahaha
